ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo investigate the clinical effects of arthroscopic repair and arthroscopic-assisted small incision repair for the treatment of rotator cuff injury.

METHODSThe clinical data of 86 patients with rotator cuff injury from January 2012 to January 2015 were analyzed retrospectively. All the patients were divided into two groups: arthroscopic assisted small incision repair group(group A) and arthroscopic repair group(group B). There were 46 patients in group A, including 25 males and 21 females, with an average age of (52.8±7.8) years old. And there were 40 patients in group B, including 23 males and 17 females, with an average age of (53.2±9.5) years old. Several indexes such as shoulder joint activity, muscle strength and ASES, UCLA and VAS scores were examined before and after operation to compare therapeutic effects between these two groups.

RESULTSAll the patients were followed up, and the mean time was 20.8 months (ranged, 18 to 35 months). The results of patients in group A as follows: range of abduction motion of shoulder joint was (131.4±18.8)°, external rotation was (64.9±8.8)°, and internal rotation was(63.7±7.3)°. Results of patients in group B as follows: range of abduction motion of shoulder joint was(132.3±16.9), external rotation was(65.1±9.4)°, and internal rotation was(64.4±8.1)°. All the patients had better shoulder mobility than those before operation, but there were no significant differences between two groups after operation. Postoperative scores of patients in group A: ASES was 88.4±8.9, UCLA score was 29.6±3.6, VAS was 1.4±0.3; and in group B, the above scores were 89.5±9.6, 30.8±4.1 and 1.3±0.4 respectively. All the patients had better scores than those before operation, but there were no significant differences between two groups after operation.

CONCLUSIONSArthroscopic repair and arthroscopic-assisted small incision for repair of rotator cuff injury has clinical curative effects to some extent, and these two methods could improve the safety and reliability of surgical treatment.

ABSTRACT

Soy isoflavones exhibit various biological activities, such as antioxidant, anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, and cardiovascular protective effects. The present study was designed to investigate the effects of sixteen synthesized 3-amino-2-hydroxypropoxy genistein derivatives on cell proliferation and activation of Nrf2 (Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2)/ARE (antioxidant response elements) pathway in human cancer cell lines. Most of the tested compounds exerted greater cytotoxic activity than genistein, as measured by MTT assay. Moreover, compound 8c showed the highest ARE-luciferase reporter activity among the test compounds. It strongly promoted Nrf2 nuclear translocation and up-regulated the expression of total Nrf2 and downstream targets NQO-1 and HO-1 at protein level. The present study may provide a basis for the application of isoflavone derivatives as Nrf2/ARE pathway inducers for cancer therapy and cancer prevention.

ABSTRACT

Soy isoflavones exert a wide variety of biological activities, such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties. Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), a bZip transcription factor, plays a key role in soy isoflavones induced protection against oxidative stress and cancer. To obtain more effective isofavones, a series of 7,4'-bis-(3-amino-2-hydroxypropoxy), 7 or 4'-(3-amino-2-hydroxypropoxy) isoflavone derivatives have been synthesized as potential antitumor agents and Nrf2/ARE (antioxidant response element) activators. The cytotoxicity of these compounds in human cancer cell lines MDA-MB-231, HT-29, HCT116, HepG2 and 7402 was tested by MTT assay. In this study, the cytotoxicity of compound 3b exhibited highest cytotoxic activity and at the safety dose range, it also strongly up-regulated antioxidant response element (ARE)-luciferase reporter activity. In addition, compound 3b induced Nrf2 nuclear translocation and upregulated its downstream target genes NQO-1 and HO-1 at protein level. Taken together, our results suggest that compound 3b could be a potential agent for cancer themotherapy or cancer chemoprevention.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo observe therapeutic effect of point-through-point acupuncture on cerebellar ataxia after apoplexy and evaluate the safety.

METHODSRandom, parallel control, single blind and multicentral study method was used and 224 cases from 4 hospitals were divided equally into a treatment group and a control group, 112 cases in each group. The treatment group were treated with point-through-point acupuncture and the control group with general needling method. Their symptoms and signs, and the effect on transcranial Doppler's method (TCD) were investigated.

RESULTSThe total effective rate was 93.3% in the treatment group which was better than 77.4% in the control group, with a significant difference between the two groups (P < 0.01), and the point-through-point acupuncture could significantly improve TCD of basilar artery, vertebral artery and posterior inferior cerebellar artery (Vs, Vm, Vd, PI, RI), superior to the control group.

CONCLUSIONThe point-through-point acupuncture has obvious therapeutic effect on cerebellar ataxia after apoplexy and good safety.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the diagnosis and operative treatment of redundant sigmoid colon in children. Methods The length of sigmoid flexure was measured by enema examination in children with constipation,if it was over the normal scope, redundant sigmoid colon were come into existence.Twenty-three cases were treated by operated, hemicolectomy were done in 14 of 23 cases, others were treated by Soave′s procedure through transanal local excision. Results Symptoms disappeared completely in 18 of 23 cases and decreased in 5 cases.Nine cases were cured after Soave's procedure through transanal local excision. There were significant differences between 2 groups(P
